First off: Cantina Sauvage will be showcasing the wines of Roland Nudelman & Keyla Beebe, along with the wines of RAM Cellars, MONDAY JULY 24TH, from 6-8pm, at an as yet, undisclosed location here in Seattle; sufficed to say, the Beacon Hill/Columbia City Neighborhood. It is a ticketed event @ $30 per guest, with Roland & Keyla here to showcase their wines and Kathryn Olson pouring the wines of Ram Cellars. Light snacks will be provided! Order Tickets Here: Friends Tasting

I am beyond excited (should I have said, THRILLED!?) to be able to host friends, Roland Nudelman, Keyla Beebe, and the ineffable Kathryn Olson representing RAM Cellars! This will be the first event Cantina Sauvage has hosted since the end of Covid! It has been almost three years! I’m grateful to be able to host this event!

Keyla, Roland, and their wines!

I’ve worked with Roland for several years. His photo, and the wines he represents through longtime friend and importer, Owen Kotler, have been mainstays in my own portfolio, and have graced the releases of Cantina Sauvage since inception back in 2018. I feel like Roland and I are soulmates of sorts, when it comes to our views on wine, the wine world, the world in general, and our place (or not) within it. Many are the moments that He and I have ranted about whatever dumb-shit thing we’ve witnessed, or held party to . . . (and isn’t there just so MUCH!?) and at the same time, noticing that we are often, more a part of the problem, than the solution, HA! Keyla Beebe comes from a fermentation background, via beer and other brews, and has entered the winemaking world while managing the vineyards at BV and collaborating with Roland in the cuvées we’ll be tasting! The two have collaborated on a project with Bainbridge Vineyards, to bring in these amazing, naturally made wines, from grapes that have never been grown with chemical additives or pesticides; are cultivated by hand, plowed by horse . . . and are pretty fucking amazing! Keyla is the vineyard lead and assistant manager at Bainbridge Vineyards whose grapes are grown less than fifteen miles from Seattle.

The wines:

The Piquette: a light, second fermentation of the pressings from Roland’s wines; slightly sparkling, slightly alcoholic, extremely refreshing.

The Vermouth: Madeleine Angevin is the base wine, using a distilllate from vineyard grapes, with all botanicals foraged by Keyla in the Kitsap County area.

The rosé: 90% direct press Mueller Thurgau with 10% Garanoir (a cross between Gamay and Reichensteiner)

The Light Red: 50/50 blend of Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir.

The Sparkling: a blend of Agria-Mueller Thurgau and Dunkelfelder (itself, a cross between Farbertraube with Blauer Portuguieser

Kathryn (whose photo has also adorned many of my offers) and I, have been associated professionally for over ten years! She is a savant of many things, including wine, poetry, plants, cats . . . and has a direct line of communication with the cosmos. I am blessed with her presence in my life and consider her a close friend & compatriot. Kathryn and I travelled together to France last June, in search of producers with whom we might work to bring in their wine. She is also a soulmate in many ways, and I do not use that term loosely! These are people I respect and who are dear to my heart. I tasted with Kathryn and Vivianne Stardust Kennedy (VIV) of Ram Cellars, several weeks ago and was stunned by her vision and clarity! The wines are expressive and true to varietal those that were not blends; they were minimally fuctwith, and lovely to drink! She makes her wines in SE Portland. although she drives her grapes over from Columbia Gorge and the greater Columbia Valley. We will also taste a Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley, and a rosé, for a total of 5 wines. Tickets are limited; so are the wines! Hope to see you!

The Wines:

Chardonnay, Canyon’s Gate Vineyard, Columbia Valley WA, 2022

Rosé, Lumiere, VIV label, Columbia Valley 2022

Almost Red, Dixon Vineyard, Columbia Valley OR 2022

Pinot Noir, Lavelle Vineyards Willamette Valley OR 2021

Hope to see you!

Much Love,

Marc
